Let’s get your House Extension Designs approved

These are strange times, but we must keep ourselves busy.

First, let me give a big thanks to the NHS staff and Key Workers who have been amazing throughout this world wide ordeal. Without them I don’t know what we would have done.

As an Architectural Design Practice we have been self isolating as well as producing designs and drawings for our many clients.

A lot of this work is done using email and internet access, but the survey of the property to be extended, to obtain the accurate room sizes, has to be done by a visit to the site.

We have been able to continue doing this by wearing gloves and face masks and following strict social distancing rules.

When we take on a new job we send our new clients an email explaining what we expect of them to achieve this 2 metre social distancing. Once we have had the ‘face to face’ to discuss what type of work is required, we ask that we be allowed to measure the house alone. We use laser measuring devices so what we need to touch is very limited.

For a client, the longest part of the planning approval process, is the 2 months that the council planning department takes to deal with a planning application. This is 2 months and can be longer. So you can see that getting your plans submitted as quickly as possible is important. During this Corona virus crisis most council planning officers are working from home, so there are no real delays in the process once the submission is done.

Although the main house building sites are struggling, we know that the small building contractors, for house extensions, are still able to work. Remember if you are having an extension your builder will be outside building the new walls and roof. He shouldn’t need to come inside the house until the end of the job when the dividing wall is removed.

During your own self isolation you have lots of time to think about the possibilities for your home alterations and extensions. When you get to the point when you need help to finalise your needs and design do not hesitate to contact us.. We can explain some of the rules in house design and what would be given planning approval. If needed we can then produce your plans to be able to obtain your planning and building regulations approvals. These plans will also enable you to get competitive builders quotes.
