If, like a lot of people, you don't put a car in it and use it to stockpile lots of rarely used items. You should consider changing the garage to a living room.
It could be an extra bedroom, another living room or a study.
This garage can usually be changed without planning permission. However it will require a building regulation approval.
This is needed to make the new room's walls and floor insulated to the required standard.
A garage's walls and floor would not meet the required U value so the walls would have to be dry-lined, and the floor would be insulated with a dense insulation batt topped with a floor finish of your choice, all to give the correct insulation values.
The existing garage door can be replaced with a new window.
The only other thing you would need to do is form an access door into the house.
All these changes would be confirmed with building specifications to be approved by your council building inspectors.
